Summer is finally here and it’s time to invest in a product that will help keep you cool while enjoying your outdoor space. A patio umbrella from will not only keep you cool on those hot summer days but will be an investment that will last you for years to come. With all the different sizes, styles and options to choose from, selecting the perfect umbrella for your outdoor space can be a bit overwhelming. Luckily we have years of experience and have simplified the decision-making process for you. We have narrowed down your search to the 4 main buying factors to consider below.
2. Style
First and foremost, you will want to measure what you are trying to shade. Is it a large dining table? Is it a single chaise lounge by the pool? Knowing the dimensions of the objects you want to help protect from the sun will be your first step in identifying which size umbrella will fit perfect for your space. Good rule of thumb is your patio umbrella should extend a minimum of 2ft on each side of what you are trying to shade. For Example:
If you have a 4ft round table, then you will want 2ft on one side and 2ft on the other size, which gives you a canopy that is a minimum 8ft wide
Small Umbrellas
Item Size: Under 48"
Recommended Canopy: 6'-8'
Medium Umbrellas
Item Size: 48" - 70"
Recommended Canopy: 8'-10'
Large Umbrellas
Item Size: Over 70"
Recommended Canopy: 10'-13'
Now that you have decided which size canopy is best, now you need to determine what Style umbrella are you looking for. There are three main styles to choose from which include Market, Cantilever and Specialty. Market umbrellas are the traditional style umbrella with the pole located in the center of the umbrella. Market umbrellas come in various material and finish options as well as different opening mechanism and tilting features. Cantilever or “off set” umbrellas have canopies that are supported from above with a post to the side which allows you to shade a large area without the obstruction that a center pole causes. Lastly, specialty umbrellas are usually shaped uniquely to shade areas where a market umbrella or a cantilever cannot. The only specialty umbrella that Galtech offers is the “half wall” umbrella which is perfect for sidewalk café’s or balcony settings.
Now that you have a size and a style in mind, let’s move on to material. There are two different material aspects to consider, the material that the frame is made from and the material of the fabric for the canopy. Lets’ start with the frame material. Below are some pros of each frame type that Galtech offers
Next you will want to determine which fabric is best for you. Galtech offers Sunbrella, Suncrylic, and Thatch. Below is a side-by-side comparison of the four fabric types. When deciding which fabric is best you will want to consider the type of fabric, the fabric’s UV rating, the fabric’s UPF (sun blocking) properties and the length of the warranty.
